Diary

Sunday, 25 November 2007 - England will meet Croatia again after the European Qualification Draw for the 2010 World Cup was made today in Durban, South Africa. The Three Lions were also drawn with Ukraine, Belarus, Andorra and Kazakhstan.

Wednesday, 14 January 2008 - In Zagreb, Croatia, the fixture list is finalised for the UEFA Qualification Group Six.

Sunday, 4 October 2009 - Theo Walcott has failed to make England's squad for the World Cup qualifiers against Ukraine and Belarus.  Walcott, who has just recovered from a back injury, scored for Arsenal in the 6-2 win against Blackburn, but coach Fabio Capello opted not to recall him.  Aston Villa forward Gabriel Agbonlahor returns in place of Jermain Defoe who misses out through a hand injury.  With injury also ruling out goalkeeper Ben Foster, Portsmouth's David James is back for the first time since April.  There is no room in the squad for Sunderland's in-form striker Darren Bent, who is currently the top English scorer in the Premier League.

Tuesday, 6 October 2009 - Manchester City defender Joleon Lescott and Blackburn Rovers keeper Paul Robinson have pulled out of the England squad for the World Cup qualifier against Ukraine. The pair have been replaced by Bolton Wanderers centre-back Gary Cahill and Manchester City keeper Joe Hart, who is on loan at Birmingham City.

Saturday, 10 October 2009 - Ukraine 1 England 0.  England's unbeaten record ends as Rob Green becomes the first England goalkeeper to be sent-off.  His professional foul after 14 minutes resulted in his expulsion.

Sunday, 11 October 2009 - Wayne Rooney has withdrawn from the England squad for Wednesday's final World Cup qualifier against Belarus because of a calf injury.  The 23-year-old Manchester United striker picked up the muscle strain during Saturday's 1-0 loss to Ukraine.  Liverpool midfielder Steven Gerrard will though remain with the squad after having his groin injury assessed.

England have called up Manchester United goalkeeper Ben Foster for Wednesday's final World Cup qualifying match against Belarus at Wembley.  The 26-year-old has been added to the squad because Robert Green is suspended following his sending off in Saturday's 1-0 defeat away against the Ukraine.  Foster originally missed out on selection after being sent for scans on bruised ribs, but has been passed fit.

Tuesday, 13 October 2009 - Steven Gerrard has been ruled out of England's World Cup qualifier against Belarus at Wembley on Wednesday after failing to shake off a groin injury. The midfielder sustained the problem in Saturday's 1-0 defeat by Ukraine and after limping out of training on Tuesday will now return to Liverpool.  Gerrard joins striker Wayne Rooney, who has a calf injury, on the sidelines.  Goalkeeper David James faces a late fitness assessment after sitting out the session with a knee problem.  The Portsmouth keeper was favourite to replace Robert Green - who is suspended following his dismissal against Ukraine - but he has developed some pain in his knee and England coach Fabio Capello will speak to the 39-year-old early on Wednesday before making a decision.  And amid speculation that the Italian may opt to make changes to his side, with qualification for the 2010 Cup ensured, Capello revealed that "it's possible you'll be surprised".  Rooney's absence in particular looks likely to prompt a rethink, with Tottenham's Peter Crouch and Aston Villa's Gabriel Agbonlahor set to partner each other up front.
