2011 - England have arranged a mouth-watering and challenging friendly
against Spain, the reigning world and European champions, at Wembley in November
and hope to be able to fulfil the fixture by securing top spot in Group G to
avoid a play-off to reach Euro 2012.
Thursday,
3 November
2011 - Fabio Capello announces his unpublished Provisional Squad for the
upcoming friendlies against Spain and Sweden, it includes captain John Terry.
But manager Fabio Capello
will consult with senior Football Association figures before
deciding whether to name him in the final squad. Terry is
undergoing investigation for alleged racial abuse comments to Anton
Ferdinand, by both the Football Association and the Police.
Sunday, 6 November 2011 a.m. - Fabio
Capello has confirmed that Wayne Rooney will not be selected in the
England squad. "I spoke to him and told him he would not be
selected for this game and he understood this, I want to see some
players who can play in the Rooney position. I want to know the value
of some players because Saturday's game against Spain will be really
important. Spain play a different style to other teams and the
Rooney position will be really important not only in this game but
when we play in the Euros in Poland."
Capello confirmed that Chelsea striker
Daniel Sturridge will be selected in the squad, along with Rooney's
Manchester United team-mate Danny Welbeck. "I want to see something different,"
said Capello. He also confirmed that he would make a decision
with regard to Rooney and the Euro finals once the outcome of the FA's
appeal is known. "Rooney is an important player and we are
waiting to hear from Uefa on the appeal from the FA. I will make a
decision on Rooney after I knowerything."

Fabio Capello has named a 25-man squad for the upcoming games at
Wembley and has given first calls to Jack Rodwell and Daniel
Sturridge. Everton midfielder Rodwell and Chelsea forward
Sturridge were both a part of the Under-21s squad at this summer's
European Championship in Denmark, and have performed well in the
Premier League this season. The pair join former Under-21s team
mates Joe Hart, Phil Jones, Kyle Walker, Adam Johnson, James Milner,
Theo Walcott, Gabriel Agbonlahor and Danny Welbeck in Fabio's squad.
Tuesday, 8 November 2011 morning -
Despite Fabio Capello's decision to leave his skipper on the bench on
Saturday, John Terry looks set to make a starting appearance against
Spain after Phil Jagielka is being treated for a hairline fracture of
the toe.
Thursday, 10 November 2011 morning -
Phil Jagielka is once more, absent from England training. He is
still being monitored for a broken toe. He has not been sent
back to his club, Everton, as Fabio Capello still appears to be
determined to use Jagielka instead of his skipper, John Terry, against
Spain.
Friday, 11 November 2011 - Gabby
Agbanlahor has returned to his club after withdrawing from the squad
due to a hamstring injury. Meanwhile, Fabio Capello has
confirmed that Frank Lampard will lead the side out against Spain, and
that John Terry will receive the captains armband for the match
against Sweden.
