All information is
complete to and including England's last match, the second of the 2011-12 season,
against Wales on 6 September 2011.
Diary
Sunday, 7 February 2010 -
England will re-unite with one of their oldest rivals when
they meet neighbours Wales in their UEFA Euro 2012 qualifying
campaign, but they'll also face Montenegro for the very first time.
England also take on Switzerland, who were Fabio Capello's first
opponents as England manager almost two years ago to the day. The
other Group G opponent will be Bulgaria.
Monday, 15 March 2010 -
At a meeting in Zürich the participant countries of Group G
failed to reach agreement over the fixture progamme for the Euro 2012
qualification games.
Thursday, 25 March 2010 -
UEFA have completed the draw for the qualification process for
Euro 2012 at UEFA ExCo in Israel, with England now knowing their
fixture schedule in Group G. England begin with Bulgaria at home
on Friday 3 September, before travelling to Switzerland four days
later.
Sunday, 2 October
2011 - Jermain Defoe and Rio
Ferdinand have been axed by Fabio Capello. Steven Gerrard was also left
out of the 24-man squad for the decisive Europan Championship qualifier against
Montenegro on Friday.
Ferdinand was England
Captain until six months ago, while in-form Defoe has scored three
goals in his last four matches. Ferdinand had expected to be
recalled for the crunch game in Podgorica after recovering from a
hamstring strain. But the 32-year-old did not feature in
Manchester United's win over Norwich City, which was watched by Franco
Baldini.
Capello chose not to
recall Steven Gerrard, after running a personal check of the Liverpool
skipper when he made another cameo appearance off the bench in the
Merseyside derby. Gerrard had admitted on Friday that he did not
feel he was in the condition to do himself justice after six months
out with a groin problem which required surgery and his absence was
not a surprise.
Capello named United
striker Danny Welbeck, recalled former West Brom keeper Scott Carson,
now in Turkey, and gave Fulham's Bobby Zamora his first England call
since breaking his leg last year. Uncapped Kyle Walker was also
included in a squad also missing the injured Glen Johnson and Chris
Smalling, as well as Jack Wilshere.
