Diary
Sunday, 7 February 2010 -
England will re-unite with one of their
oldest rivals when they meet neighbours Wales in their UEFA Euro 2012
qualifying campaign, but they will also face Montenegro for the very
first time. England also take on Switzerland, who were Fabio
Capello's first opponents as England manager almost two years ago to
the day. The other Group G opponent will be Bulgaria.
Monday, 15 March 2010 -
At a meeting in Zürich the participant
countries of Group G failed to reach agreement over the fixture
progamme for the Euro 2012 qualification games.
Thursday, 25 March 2010 -
UEFA have completed the draw for the
qualification process for Euro 2012 at UEFA ExCo in Israel, with
England now knowing their fixture schedule in Group G. England
begin with Bulgaria at home on Friday 3 September, before travelling
to Switzerland four days later.
Sunday, 28 August
2011 - Fabio Capello names a 25-man squad for the European Championship
qualifiers against Bulgaria and Wales next month.
Capello
has named Manchester United defender Phil Jones in an England squad for the
first time. He was called up as Rio Ferdinand and Michael Dawson miss out.
Bolton's Gary Cahill and Chris Smalling are also named, while midfielder Tom
Cleverley also gets the call. Up front Darren Bent and Jermain Defoe are
both in after an injury to Danny Welbeck who was in the last squad.
Tuesday, 30 August
2011 - Rob Green has withdrawn from the England squad for
their Euro 2012 qualifiers because of a finger injury and been replaced by Frank
Fielding. Derby's Fielding was the first-choice keeper for England at the
recent European Under-21 Championships. The 23-year-old has conceded only
three goals in five league games this season. Ipswich keeper David
Stockdale, who let in seven at Peterborough last week, is understudy to
first-choice Joe Hart. That means Fielding becomes the second Championship
keeper in the squad.
Hart is the only has established keeper in Capello's squad following the
international retirement of West Brom's Ben Foster. It is thought Green picked
up the knock during West Ham's 4-1 win over Nottingham Forest on Sunday.
Green reported for duty at England's training base at the Grove in Watford on
Monday night but has now returned to his club for treatment.
Darren Bent and Joleon Lescott were absent from England's first training
session today. Aston Villa striker Bent was suffering from a slight groin
injury and Manchester City defender Lescott an ankle problem.
Thursday, 1 September
2011 - Striker Darren Bent is a major doubt after he was
again absent from training this afternoon. Bent has missed the previous
two days' sessions with a groin problem and he again failed to participate in
the final session 24 hours before the game.
Sunday, 4 September
2011 - Darren Bent and Micah Richards have been ruled out
of England's Euro 2012 qualifier against Wales on Tuesday because of injuries.
Bent had not been able to train in the build-up to Friday's win over Bulgaria
after picking up a groin problem. Manchester City defender Richards is
believed to have a hamstring problem. Fabio Capello has decided against
calling up any replacements so close to Tuesday's match at Wembley. Both
players have returned to their clubs for treatment on their injuries.
Monday, 5 September
2011 - Leighton Baines returns to his club, Everton, after taking
a knock in training. His injury is not serious, but he will miss the European
Championship qualifier against Wales tomorrow night.
