team notes: |
Not since a 1966 WCF group match have England faced Mexico in a Major
Tournament fixture. |
|
youth notes: |
England and Mexico have met
several times at
youth level. Trevoh Chalobah started for the under-16s at the
Tournoi Tournament in March 2015. Marc Guéhi was a member of the
victorious under-18 team that won the FIFA U17 World Cup in October
2017, that included defeating Mexico in the group stage. Anthony
Gordon was an unused substitute when the two countries met in an March
friendly tournament fixture. Kobbie Mainoo started the under-19
thrashing of Mexico in the Marbella Cup in November 2023. Jordan
Pickford was an unused substitute for the under-21s in an unofficial
meeting prior to the U20 World Cup in March 2015 but he did start the
Tournoi Espoirs fixture three months later. Ezri Konsa started the
same fixture three years later. |
|
WCF appearance notes: |
Jordan Pickford equals Peter Shilton's record of seventeen WCF
appearances. And like Shilton, all his appearances have come
consecutively. |
|
goalscoring notes: |
The next two players who score their first WCF goal will be the
fiftieth different England player to score at a WCF tournament. |
|
captaincy notes: |
Harry Kane captains his country for a record-breaking number of 91
times, overtaking a tally held by Billy Wright and Bobby Moore, that
has been in place for over fifty-two years |
|
BME notes: |
|
|
venue notes: |
This is England's fifteenth match at
high altitude (above 1395ft)
(W 6 - D 1 - L 7 - F 20 - A 15). Their eighth at WCF
(W 3 - D 0 - L 4 - F 9 - A 10). Eighth visit to the Azteca
(W 2 - D 1 - A 3 - F 8 - A 5). Although the last time England visited this venue was during the 1986 WCF, that
quarter-final against Argentina, they were victorious against Paraguay
at the same venue four days previously. |
