22 May 1960: England met Asian opposition for the first time at any level, and for the first time against a team from outside of Europe for an under-23 international, when Israel's full international team beat them 4-0 in Ramat Gan.

12 March 1961: West Germany beat England at home in a youth international for the first time, by 2-0 in Flensburg.

22 March 1962: England met Turkey in an under-23 international for the first time, and beat them for the first time at any level, by 4-1 at Southampton.

31 March 1962: West Germany lost a youth international in England for the first time, by 1-0 at Northampton, as Gordon Jago took charge of England's professional youth team.

20 April 1962: The UEFA Youth Tournament began in Romania for 19 countries, and included the USSR for the first time, plus a representative team from Brașov County in central Romania. Yugoslavia beat England for the first time in a youth international, by 5-0 in their opening match in Ploiești.

24 April 1962: England avoided defeat against Bulgaria for the first time in a youth international, in a goalless draw in a UEFA Youth Tournament group match in Ploiești.

28 April 1962: England lost at home to continental opposition in a schoolboy international for the first time, when West Germany won 2-1 at Wembley.

20 May 1962: England met a youth team from outside of Europe for the first time, and beat Israel 3-1 in Tel Aviv.

22 May 1962: England lost to a team from outside of Europe in a youth international for the first time, when Israel beat them 2-1 in Haifa.

21 March 1963: England met Yugoslavia in an under-23 international for the first time, in a goalless draw at Old Trafford, Manchester.

21 March 1963: FIRST INTERNATIONAL APPEARANCE for Tommy Smith.

13 April 1963: The UEFA Youth Tournament began in southern England (having also hosted the first tournament, in 1948) for 16 qualifiers, and included Sweden for the first time.

17 April 1963: England met the USSR in a youth international for the first time, and won 2-0 in a UEFA Youth Tournament group match at Tottenham.

19 April 1963: England met Scotland in a professional youth international for the first time, and won 1-0 in the UEFA Youth Tournament semi-final at White City, to reach the final for the first time since 1958.

23 April 1963: England (the hosts) beat Northern Ireland, 4-0 in the UEFA Youth Tournament Final in the first youth international to be played at Wembley Stadium, and their first professional meeting, to win the title for the first time since 1948 (when they were, again, hosts).

29 May 1963: England visited Yugoslavia for an under-23 international for the first time, and won there for the first time at any level, by 4-2 in Belgrade.

2 June 1963: Romania beat England at home for the first time at any level, when they won 1-0 in an under-23 international in Bucharest.

England manager, Alf Ramsey took charge of the under-23 team.

Unofficial British Under-23 Champions: Wales (on goal average from England, who played both of their games at home). Both of Scotland's games were away from home.

27 February 1964: FIRST INTERNATIONAL APPEARANCE for John Hollins.

26 March 1964: The UEFA Youth Tournament began in the Netherlands (the 1949 hosts) for 16 teams. Poland avoided defeat against England (the defending champions) for the first time at any level, in their first  meeting in a professional youth international, in a 1-1 draw in their opening match in Breda.

30 March 1964: England met the Republic of Ireland in a professional youth international for the first time, and won 6-0 in a UEFA Youth Tournament group match in Middelburg.

3 April 1964: England avoided defeat against Portugal in a youth international, and scored against them, for the first time, in their first professional meeting, by winning 4-0 in the UEFA Youth Tournament semi-final in Den Haag.

5 April 1964: England beat Spain for the first time in a neutral country at any level, by 4-0 in the UEFA Youth Tournament Final in Amsterdam to become the first team to win the title three times (winning it for the first time on foreign soil), and the first to retain it. Both teams were appearing in a record fourth final.

27 April 1964: FIRST INTERNATIONAL APPEARANCE for Trevor Brooking.

13 May 1964: Hungary met England for the first time in an under-23 international, and won 2-1 in Budapest.

17 May 1964: England's under-23s won an international outside of Europe for the first time, when they beat Israel's full international team, 4-0 in Tel Aviv.

20 May 1964: England visited Turkey for the first time at any level and lost for the first time, by 3-0 in an under-23 international in Istanbul.

15 April 1965: The UEFA Youth Tournament began in West Germany (hosts in 1954 and co-hosts in 1958) for 23 teams. England (holders for the second successive year) beat Belgium in a neutral country for the first time at any level, by 3-0 in their opening match in Ludwigshafen.

FIRST INTERNATIONAL APPEARANCE for Peter Osgood.

21 April 1965: England beat Hungary on foreign soil for the first time in a youth international, by 5-0 in the UEFA Youth Tournament quarter-final in Wuppertal.

22 April 1965: England failed to score against Wales in a schoolboy international for the first time since 1954, in a goalless draw at Hillsborough.

23 April 1965: England avoided defeat against Italy in a youth international for the first time, in their first professional meeting, and won 3-1 in the UEFA Youth Tournament semi-final in Marl to become the first team to reach five finals, and three in succession.

25 April 1965: East Germany beat England in a neutral country for the first time at any level, by 3-2 in the UEFA Youth Tournament Final in Essen in West Germany.

8 May 1965: England met Wales in an under-18 schoolboy international for the first time, as the English Schools' Football Association joined the Conference of Grammar Schools' Football Associations. England won 4-2 at Leeds.

22 April 1967: FIRST INTERNATIONAL APPEARANCE for Tony Towers and Steve Whitworth.

29 April 1967: FIRST INTERNATIONAL APPEARANCE for Steve Perryman.

5 May 1967: The UEFA Youth Tournament began in Turkey for 16 teams. England played their first youth international in Turkey, and beat Italy, 1-0 in their opening match in İzmir.

10 May 1967: Austria visited England for an under-23 international for the first time, and lost 3-0 at Hull.

11 May 1967: England beat France in a neutral country for the first time at any level, by 2-0 in the UEFA Youth Tournament semi-final in Istanbul, to become the first team to reach six finals (their fourth in five years).

13 May 1967: The USSR beat England in a youth international for the first time, by 1-0 in the UEFA Youth Tournament Final in Istanbul, to retain the title (after sharing it with Italy in the previous year).

The Conference of Grammar Schools' Football Associations became the Conference of English Schools' Senior Football Associations.

16 March 1968: Wales won a youth international in England for the first time, by 3-2 at Watford.

18 May 1969: The UEFA Youth Tournament began in East Germany for 16 teams, and included Malta for the first time. England met Malta for the first time at any level, and won 6-0 in their opening match in Wolfen.

20 May 1969: England beat Czechoslovakia in a youth international for the first time, by 3-1 in a UEFA Youth Tournament group match in Leipzig.

22 May 1969: The Netherlands beat England in an under-23 international for the first time, by 2-1 in Deventer, as Ron Suart took charge for the three-match tour.

25 May 1969: England's under-23s visited Belgium for the first time, and beat their hosts' B team, 1-0 in Ostend.

28 May 1969: England visited Portugal for an under-23 international for the first time, and the island of Madeira for the first time at any level, and failed to beat them at under-23 level for the first time, in a 1-1 draw in Funchal.
