Diary
Thursday, 17 October 2013 -
England will play Germany and Chile in Wembley friendlies
next month as part of their World Cup preparations. Both opponents have also qualified for next summer's tournament.
Thursday, 7 November 2013
- Roy Hodgson has named his squad. He has already said he is likely to
use the next few matches to give some his younger players a run out.
There is a first call-up for Southampton's Jay Rodriguez, and a second
call-up for his team-mate Adam Lallana, who was called up as a
replacement against Ukraine in September 2012. Earning a recall
is Liverpool's Jordan Henderson, who last featured
for England against Italy in the European Championship Finals
in 2012.
Sunday, 10 November 2013
- Michael Carrick
is likely to miss England's friendlies through injury. He has been
struggling with an achilles problem and left the ground after playing
in Manchester United's 1-0 win over Arsenal in some discomfort. Danny
Welbeck is also doubtful because of a knee injury. Steven
Gerrard and Daniel Sturridge also struggled following Liverpool's win
over Fulham on Saturday. Gerrard is struggling with a hip injury
while Sturridge has a sore foot.
Tuesday, 12 November 2013
- England are to
switch bases ahead of friendlies against Chile and Germany after a
stomach bug alert at the site of the National Football Centre. A small
number of visitors to St George's Park in Staffordshire were affected
over the weekend. No players have experienced any virus symptoms but
the Under-21s are moving hotels as a precaution. The senior side will
meet up in Hertfordshire instead. They will report to the Grove Hotel
near Watford today before training at London Colney - Arsenal's
training ground.
Manchester United duo Michael Carrick and Danny Welbeck have
been ruled out of England's friendlies through injury, the Football
Association announces. No replacements will be called up.
Wednesday, 13 November 2013
- Manchester United
confirm that midfielder Michael Carrick will be out for four to six
weeks with an Achilles injury. In the meantime, Captain Steven
Gerrard, Daniel Sturridge and Kyle Walker all missed today's training.
Frank Lampard only did partial training as he is suffering with a
cold. By lunchtime however, both Gerrard and Walker have
withdrawn from the squad to face Chile, but both should resume their
places against Germany.
Thursday, 14 November 2013
- Roy Hodgson has
confirmed that Frank Lampard will captain England tomorrow night
against Chile and that Joe Hart will not start the match. Rickie
Lambert has been ruled out of the match also, due to a muscle problem.
He may not recover in time to face Germany either.

defeated by Chile 2-0 in a lack-lustre performance.

- Phil Jones has
been withdrawn from the squad after picking up a groin injury during
yesterday's defeat. He was replaced just before the hour-mark by Chris
Smalling. The FA confirmed that he had a scan today to reveal the
problem and he has returned to his club. Roy Hodgson
is hopeful that right-back Kyle Walker will recover from his
injury in time for Tuesday night. Steven Gerrard, Daniel Sturridge and
Rickie Lambert, will be assessed when they report back to England's
base in Watford on Sunday.
