Diary
Tuesday, 14 November 2017 -
England will play two friendlies against the Netherlands and Italy in
March 2018 as part of their World Cup preparations. Gareth Southgate's
side will play the Dutch on 23 March in Amsterdam, before hosting
Italy at Wembley on 27 March. The Netherlands finished third in their
World Cup qualifying group, while Italy missed out after losing their
play-off against Sweden.
Wednesday,
14 March 2018 - Harry Kane will be out until next month after
damaging ankle ligaments in Sunday's Premier League Spurs' win over
Bournemouth. His club said in a statement
that "preliminary assessments" confirmed the injury after a scan on
Monday. Kane, who has scored 35 goals for Spurs this season, injured
his right ankle in a collision with Bournemouth goalkeeper Asmir
Begović. The 24-year-old should be fit for England's World Cup
campaign. But he will miss Spurs' FA Cup quarter-final at Swansea on
Saturday, as well as two England friendlies the following week.
Thursday, 15 March 2018 -
Gareth Southgate announces his 27-man squad.
It includes three new faces, Alfie Mawson, James Tarkowski and Nick
Pope. There are also recalls for Adam Lallana, Danny Welbeck and Jack
Wilshere. Injuries to Gary Cahill and Harry Kane force their
exclusion.
Monday, 19 March 2018 -
The squad begin arriving at St. George's Park.
Tuesday, 20 March 2018 - The first
days training at St. George's Park includes the entire first team
squad, as well as Alexander Trent-Arnold from the under-21's.
Burnley's Nick Pope says it will be "every man for themselves" in the
fight to be England's first-choice goalkeeper at the World Cup this
summer. "I want it to be me," Pope said. "It would be a massive honour
to represent your country and to go to a World Cup." On the evening, Ryan Bertrand returned to his club, Southampton, for
assessment on his back issue. His withdrawal is a precautionary
measure.
Wednesday, 21 March 2018 -
Fourteen of the squad have joined forces at St. George's Park to
create a lasting legacy to the international footballers who served
their country in the First World War. Trees were planted in support of
the For Club and Country project with the Woodland Trust
and the National Football Museum.
Thursday, 22 March 2018 -
After this morning's training session, the squad depart from St.
George's Park for Amsterdam, without Jack Wilshere, who is nursing a
knee injury. Although he is
remaining part of the squad. Jordan Pickford is confirmed as starting
in goal, and Jordan Henderson will captain the side.
Friday, 23 March 2018 - Ahead of
England's first game of the year, the squad are training at the
facilities of Alkmaar Zaanstreek.
