All information is
complete to and including England's last match, the seventh of the 2025-26
season, against Uruguay on 27 March 2026.
Diary
10 December 2025 -
England will play Uruguay and Japan at Wembley in March in their final two games before Thomas Tuchel chooses his squad for the 2026 World Cup.
They will face Uruguay on Friday, 27 March before taking on Japan on Tuesday, 31 March, with Tuchel scheduled to announced his squad in May.
"We are really pleased to have these two fixtures confirmed as our World Cup year takes shape. We wanted to play two teams ranked in the top 20 in the world, but also to test ourselves against opponents from outside of Europe."
Friday
10am, 20 March 2026
- Everton midfielder James Garner and Brighton goalkeeper Jason Steele are the two uncapped players named by Thomas Tuchel in an expanded 35-man England squad.
It is Tuchel's penultimate squad before he makes his selection for the 2026 World Cup.
The extended squad sees recalls for Manchester United duo Harry Maguire and Kobbie Mainoo, while AC Milan defender Fikayo Tomori is back for the first time since October 2023.
Leeds striker Dominic Calvert-Lewin returns after more than five years since his last call-up and Dominic Solanke makes his first squad since October 2024.
But there is no place for Real Madrid full-back Trent Alexander-Arnold, Bournemouth midfielder Alex Scott or Aston Villa forward Ollie Watkins.
Chelsea's Reece James and Trevoh Chalobah, who were named in the last squad, miss out through injury.
Newcastle goalkeeper Nick Pope also misses out, and Lewis Hall is
preferred over Manchester United's Luke Shaw at left-back. "We decided to divide it into basically two camps almost," Tuchel said of his decision to select a 35-man squad.
"So we bring players in that we haven't seen, who haven't played so much, to open up the picture and the competition for plane tickets to the US.
Then from Friday and Saturday, a group of players will come into camp - ten or
eleven players who had a rest before so we can go with a new group and mix of players into the match against Japan." Tuchel added that he is
inviting nineteen outfield players and four goalkeepers for the first
part of the camp to give them a chance to compete for minutes and for
their ticket to the World Cup. From Saturday morning, eleven more
players will join the camp and some players will be released some
players to have a group of 21/22 players plus goalkeeper. Those eleven players who will join the camp later are: Henderson, Burn, Guéhi, Konsa, O'Reilly, Anderson, Rice, Rogers, Gordon, Kane and Saka.
Sunday, 22 March 2026 - Newcastle
United winger Harvey Barnes has been called up to the England squad to
replace the injured Ebere Eze.
Eze was not in Arsenal's squad for today's 2-0 Carabao Cup final defeat by Manchester City because of a lower leg injury.
Barnes has been called up once before, in October 2020, in a friendly against Wales.
Scotland have tried to convince Barnes to switch his international allegiances and play for Steve Clarke's team at this summer's World Cup, with the 28-year-old eligible through his grandparents.
Barnes has scored 14 goals in all competitions for Newcastle this season.
Meanwhile, Bayer Leverkusen say defender Jarell Quansah has been ruled out with a thigh injury.
Monday, 23 March 2026 - Arsenal defender Ben White has been called up to the England squad for the first time in more than three years.
The 27-year-old has not been involved since leaving the camp during the 2022 World Cup in Qatar for personal reasons.
White then made himself unavailable for selection for the rest of Gareth Southgate's reign.
He has not played for England since a 3-0 friendly win against Ivory Coast in March 2022.
He replaces Jarell Quansah. White has made only seven Premier League appearances for leaders Arsenal this season.
However, he has played in eight of their 10 Champions League games in their run to the quarter-finals and started
yesterday's 2-0 Carabao Cup final defeat by Manchester City.
Tuesday, 24 March 2026 - Day One of
training at St. George's Park ends with Darts' champion, Luke Littler,
who participated in an in-camp darts competition.
Wednesday, 25 March 2026 - On Day
Two of training at St. George's Park, Manchester United's Ayden Heaven
is one of three player's from the under-20 squad to join in with the
first team training session.
Thursday, 26 March 2026 - The England party leave St. George's
Park and train on the Wembley pitch. They are joined by Tye Hall.
Tottenham Hotspur's under-18 captain.
Friday, 27 March 2026 -
The nine remaining players arrive at The Lodge, Tottenham Hotspur's Training
Centre in Enfield, and are part of the day's training session ahead of
tonight's match. John Stones picks up an injury.
England 1 Uruguay 1 - Ben White suffered mixed fortunes on his international comeback as England were held to a draw by Uruguay in a scrappy Wembley friendly.
The Arsenal defender was booed by supporters when he came on in the 69th minute following his return from a self-imposed exile.
But White turned the jeers to cheers when he scored from virtually on the goalline from Cole Palmer's corner with nine minutes left.
It looked like his first international goal would be enough for an England victory, only for White to then concede a stoppage-time penalty for a challenge on Federico Vinas.
After a video assistant referee check, Federico Valverde rifled the spot-kick into the corner past James Trafford.
Tuchel gave full England debuts to goalkeeper Trafford and Everton midfielder James Garner, but it was hard for players to shine as this friendly developed into untidy scrap.
Uruguay lost Joaquin Piquerez early on following a challenge with Noni Madueke, who was himself replaced by Jarrod Bowen seven minutes before half-time after picking up a heavy knock.
Phil Foden struggled to make an impression but his night was cut short not long after he was on the end of a dreadful challenge from Ronald Araujo that could have merited a red card.
The Manchester City attacker was replaced by Palmer, whose set-piece created England's best chance of the night after 70 minutes as another substitute Dominic Calvert-Lewin somehow headed wide with the goal at his mercy.
There was an uncomfortable moment when White came on as substitute, but he had the satisfaction of finally breaking down Uruguay's fierce resistance - only for his joy to be soured by that converted penalty in the fourth minute of added time.
Following six clean sheets in a row, Valverde's strike was the first goal England had conceded since a 3-1 loss to Senegal in June 2025.
Saturday, 28 March 2026, 8.15pm
- A revised England squad of 27 players are preparing for Tuesday’s fixture with Japan.
In total, eight players are to leave camp, including Aaron Ramsdale, Fikayo Tomori and Dominic Calvert-Lewin.
Those leaving because of injury are John Stones, who is returning to Manchester City for assessment after picking up an issue in training
on Friday.
Crystal Palace’s Adam Wharton and Arsenal’s Noni Madueke have gone back to their clubs with knocks picked up during the match.
Declan Rice and Bukayo Saka will also return to Arsenal for medical assessment, having arrived on Friday along with nine other players.
Sunday, 29 March 2026 - The
players return to training at The Lodge.
Monday, 30 March 2026 - 26 of the 27
players are training at Tottenham's training ground. Jordan Henderson
is following his own training programme indoors.
Tuesday, 31 March 2026 - Harry Kane
is to be rested tonight as a precaution after he picked up a minor
issue in training.
