schoolboy footballer in Northfleet, before joining Northfleet Paper Mills
FC. He was signed on as a Tottenham Hotspur FC amateur in 1937, and sent
out to the Spurs' nursery side, Northfleet FC, for development in 1938,
turning professional in 1939. He joined the RAF during WW2 and was a
member of the Tommy Walker XI that toured the Far East. He returned to
Tottenham after the war and remained after 418
league appearances, 247 of them consecutively, until May 1959,
when he joined Romford FC, stepped up to player-manager in July 1959. He
left for Brentwood FC in August 1965. |
