All information is
complete to and including England's last match, the first of the 2010-11 season,
against Hungary on 11 August 2010.
Diary
Sunday, 7 February 2010 -
England will re-unite with one of their
oldest rivals when they meet neighbours Wales in their UEFA Euro 2012
qualifying campaign, but they'll also face Montenegro for the very
first time. ngland also take on Switzerland, who were Fabio
Capello's first opponents as England manager almost two years ago to
the day. The other Group G opponent will be Bulgaria.
Monday, 15 March 2010 -
At a meeting in Zurich the participant
countries of Group G failed to reach agreement over the fixture
progamme for the Euro 2012 qualification games.
Thursday, 25 March 2010 -
UEFA have completed the draw for the
qualification process for Euro 2012 at UEFA ExCo in Israel, with
England now knowing their fixture schedule in Group G. England
begin with Bulgaria at home on Friday 3 September, before travelling
to Switzerland four days later.
Sunday, 29
August
2010
- Fabio Capello has named a 24-man squad for the opening double header of Euro
2012 qualifiers, which begins at Wembley on Friday with the visit of Bulgaria.
There are five forwards in the squad, fresh from reaching the Champions League
group stages with Tottenham Hotspur Peter Crouch and Jermain Defoe both return
to the fold. Wayne Rooney scored his first goal of the season on Saturday and he
is joined by Darren Bent who also notched from the penalty spot, and West Ham
United's Carlton Cole.
Chelsea pair Frank Lampard and John Terry both miss out through injury, while
Kieran Gibbs keeps his place in the squad after making his debut against Hungary
last month.
Tuesday, 31
August
2010 - England's preparations for their Euro 2012 qualifier have been hit
by a series of injuries. Goalkeepers Ben Foster (knee) and Scott Carson
(back) missed Tuesday's training and 19-year-old Arsenal reserve keeper James
Shea had to make up the numbers. Everton's Phil Jagielka had been expected
to play in central defence at Wembley but missed training at London Colney
because of an ankle injury. And Tottenham striker Peter Crouch was also
absent because of back trouble. Manchester City's Joe Hart is coach Fabio
Capello's first-choice goalkeeper, but injuries to his deputies may lead to a
repeat of the friendly win against Hungary on 11 August when Watford's Under-21
keeper Scott Loach and Blackburn fourth choice Frankie Fielding were drafted in.
Wednesday, 1
September 2010
- Peter Crouch is out of England's squad for the Euro 2012 qualifiers.
Crouch has been ruled out with a back injury and will not be replaced.
Thursday, 2 September 2010
- Scott Carson has been released from the England squad because of a family
bereavement. Watford's Scott Loach has been called up from the Under-21
squad as replacement for the West Brom keeper. Carson was making his first
appearance in an England squad in two years.
Capello also has a serious injury
concern in Phil Jagielka, who had been pencilled in to start in the centre of
defence in the absence of Rio Ferdinand and John Terry. The Everton defender
trained on yesterday for the first time since joining up with the squad, but
only on his own and in the gym. Jagielka has a badly bruised ankle,
suffered against Aston Villa on Sunday, and he will need to take a full part in
training today to be considered.
England remain hopeful but his participation is in severe doubt. If he does not
make it then Capello will have to form a partnership from Matthew Upson and
Michael Dawson, with Joleon Lescott and Gary Cahill also in contention.
Jermain Defoe, who has been suffering from a groin complaint, and Ashley Cole,
with a sore ankle, are also fit as are the two goalkeepers, Ben Foster and Scott
Carson.
England will take the unusual step of training at Wembley today, which would
suggest that Capello is keen for the players to familiarise themselves further
with the stadium’s new pitch and deal with the fear factor they sometimes suffer
from.
