Diary

Monday, 13 December 2010 - The FA confirmed England's first match of 2011, with Fabio Capello's side taking on Denmark in February.  The opening game of the year will see England travel to Copenhagen to take on the Danes in the Parken Stadium on Wednesday 9 February.

Saturday, 5 February 2011 - Fabio Capello has named a 25-man squad to face Denmark on Wednesday evening, with first call-ups for Fulham 'keeper David Stockdale and Aston Villa defender Kyle Walker.  Michael Dawson returns to the squad following his injury last year suffered against Bulgaria at Wembley, Leighton Baines is also included among the backline while there is also a place for Stewart Downing and Scott Parker among the midfielders.

Rio Ferdinand was earlier ruled out for two weeks following Manchester United'sening defeat at Wolverhampton Wanderers.  Ferdinand picked up a calf injury.

Names that are in the 40-man provisional squad include Wolverhampton Wanderers' midfielder Karl Henry.

Sunday, 6 February 2011 - Steven Gerrard, Peter Crouch and Ben Foster have been released from England's squad because of injuries.  Gerrard has a groin problem.  Foster has a minor thumb injury and Crouch a back problem, with the latter two being released after fitness tests at England's team hotel in Watford on Sunday evening. The FA have also said Gabriel Agbonlahor has not joined up with the party for personal reasons.

West Ham goalkeeper Robert Green and Hammers striker Carlton Cole have been drafted into the revised squad.

Chelsea's Frank Lampard now looks certain to be named captain for the first time.  With John Terry ruled out on the grounds he had the armband taken away as a disciplinary measure by Capello 12 months ago, the only two plausible options are Lampard and Wayne Rooney.  Manchester United striker Rooney led England in the friendly loss to Brazil in Doha last season.  Hoewever, Lampard was the man who Capello nominated as his vice-captain when Ferdinand pulled out of the World Cup, so it would be a surprise if he was not handed the role from the start in what will be his 84th international match.

Tuesday, 8 February 2011 - Chelsea midfielder Frank Lampard has been named England captain for the friendly against Denmark.  "I am very proud, it is quite unexpected," stated Lampard. "I've been in the squad for quite a long time time now and I feel like one of the old stagers. It will be one of the proudest moments of my career to lead out the boys. I'll try and do what I do for Chelsea. I'm not going to change just because of the armband. The team will always need leaders and I will try and do my usual job but try and have an influence on the team."

Fabio Capello also said that Arsenal's Jack Wilshere would make his full debut alongside Lampard.
