England will face Montenegro, Ukraine, Poland, Moldova, and San Marino
in Group H when they bid to qualify for the 2014 World Cup finals in
Brazil. The draw was made this afternoon in Rio. "It is not an easy
draw," said Fabio Capello. "You have to be really, really focused and
play every game like a final - but that will be another manager's
job."
Wednesday, 23 November 2011
- England's FIFA 2014 FIFA World Cup qualifying fixtures have today been
finalised, following a meeting between all of the Group H member
associations in Warsaw. The Three Lions will begin their campaign in
Moldova in September 2012.
Tuesday, 20 August 2013 -
Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain has
revealed he could be out of action until November. He was injured
during Saturday's opening Premier League defeat by Aston Villa.
Manager Arsene Wenger said he expected the midfielder to miss "at
least" six weeks.
Tuesday, 27 August 2013 -
West Bromwich Albion goalkeeper Ben Foster is ruled out for up to 12 weeks with
a stress fracture of a bone in his right foot, the club has announced. Foster
was forced off in the 77th minute in the goalless draw at Everton on Saturday
and will undergo surgery in the next few days.
Roy Hodgson has named his squad to
face Moldova and Ukraine and has handed Ross Barkley and Andros
Townsend their first senior call-ups. Rickie Lambert's memorable
debut against Scotland and subsequent league form is enough to earn
him a second call-up to the squad, while Liverpool's in-form striker
Daniel Sturridge returns after missing the previous game through
injury. There is also a return to the squad for uncapped Celtic
goalkeeper Fraser Forster, who replaces the injured Ben Foster.
Sunday, 1 September 2013 -
The days top Premiership matches cost the
England squad three of its main players. Wayne Rooney had a training
ground accident with Phil Jones that required head stitches this
morning, so he missed his team's defeat at Liverpool. Glen
Johnson limped off with thirteen minutes remaining, as did Jones, in
the first half. The only scorer
of the game was Daniel Sturridge, who had been suffering with a thigh
injury. Elsewhere, Jack Wilshere also went off
when he was substituted in Arsenal's victory over Tottenham Hotspur.
He was complaining of being unwell. Cardiff City's Steve Caulker has
been called in as a replacement.
Tuesday,
3 September 2013 -
England's first day of training goes well,
but four players are not training with the rest of squad. Jack
Wilshere, Daniel Sturridge, Jermain
Defoe and Steven Caulker are taking part in a light training session
instead.
Thursday,
5 September 2013 -
Liverpool's in-form striker Daniel Sturridge
will miss the match against Moldova at Wembley with a thigh injury.
However, the 24-year-old could be fit to play against Ukraine next
Tuesday. Steven Caulker also misses out because of an ankle injury.
Friday, 6 September 2013 -
England beat Moldova at Wembley 4-0 with two goals from Welbeck,
another from Lambert, and Gerrard's first strike for three years.
However, a yellow card for Welbeck means he is suspended for the clash
with Ukraine on Tuesday. He had carried on with his shot only moments
after the referee had called him wrongly as offside.
Saturday, 7 September 2013 -
Daniel Sturridge has been ruled out of England's crucial qualification
match against Ukraine on Tuesday due to his persistent thigh injury.
He had returned to Liverpool for treatment before the Moldova match,
but has not recovered in time for the match in Kiev.
