Management Career |
Club(s) |
Southgate stepped up to the position of player-manager, despite
not having the relevant UEFA coaching badges, of Middlebrough FC on 7 June
2006, after his manager, Steve McClaren, took the vacant England manager's
position. Southgate remained, enduring relegation to the Championship,
before finally getting the sack on 20 October 2009, with Boro' in fourth
place. In January 2011, Southgate was appointed FA's Head of Elite
Development, until July 2012. He was handed the England U21 management
position on 22 August 2013 under Roy Hodgson, and continued as manager
under Sam Allardyce. Southgate temporarily took charge of the national
side from 27 September 2016, until his resignation on 16 July 2024 |
