Wednesday, 13 March 2019 - Twenty-four hours earlier than anticipated, Gareth Southgate, at St. George's Park, has named his 25-man squad for the opening European Championship qualification matches with the Czech Republic and Montenegro. Declan Rice is the only new name, having swapped his allegiance from Republic the Ireland to England earlier in the year. Harry Maguire returns to the set-up after missing the last squad because of injury. Their are returns also for Danny Rose and James Tarkowski, who both withdrew from the las squad because of injury. There is also a return to the fold for Tom Heaton, who has not featured since being on standby for the 2018 World Cup Finals.

Monday, 18 March 2019 - James Ward-Prowse has been called up to the squad. The Southampton midfielder, who won his only cap exactly two years ago, will link up with the Three Lions at St. George's Park this afternoon. Meanwhile, Manchester City pair John Stones and Fabian Delph have withdrawn because of injury, as has Chelsea's Ruben Loftus-Cheek.
Chelsea winger Callum Hudson-Odoi has been called up to the England squad for the first time. The 18-year-old was due to be part of the England Under-21 squad. Hudson-Odoi played 19 games for Chelsea this season, scoring five times, but is yet to start a Premier League match. Luke Shaw is the latest player withdrawing from the squad. Hudson-Odoi's Under-21 call-up was his first at that level but the winger has previously represented England from Under-16 to Under-19 level, winning the Under-17 World Cup in 2017.
The players report to St. George's Park and have their first training session.

Tuesday, 19 March 2019 - Second day of training at St. George's Park. All 23 members of the squad are involved, as well as Burnley FC's Dwight McNeil, who has come from the under-20 squad for the session.

Wednesday, 20 March 2019 - On the the third day of training, Trent Alexander-Arnold has withdrawn from the squad. The right-back arrived at St. George's Park nursing a back injury, and despite progress, it is considered unlikely that he will have a role in this weekends matches. He will not be replaced.

Thursday, 21 March 2019 - 21 of the players are taking part in training at St. George's Park today, the only excluded player, Marcus Rashford, is working separately from the main group. The head down to Wembley in the afternoon.
In the evening, Marcus Rashford was sent back to his club. There was no improvement to his ankle injury and it was decided he should continue his rehabilitation at Manchester United. Gareth Southgate also confirmed that Jordan Pickford would be starting in goal.
