Diary
Wednesday, 13 March 2019 -
Twenty-four hours earlier than anticipated, Gareth Southgate, at St.
George's Park, has named his 25-man squad for
the opening European Championship qualification matches with the Czech
Republic and Montenegro. Declan Rice is the only new name, having
swapped his allegiance from Republic the Ireland to England earlier in
the year. Harry Maguire returns to the set-up after missing the last
squad because of injury. Their are returns also for Danny Rose and
James Tarkowski, who both withdrew from the las squad because of
injury. There is also a return to the fold for Tom Heaton, who has not
featured since being on standby for the 2018 World Cup Finals.
Monday, 18 March 2019 - James
Ward-Prowse has been called up to the squad. The Southampton
midfielder, who won his only cap exactly two years ago, will link up
with the Three Lions at St. George's Park this afternoon. Meanwhile,
Manchester City pair John Stones and Fabian Delph have withdrawn
because of injury, as has Chelsea's Ruben Loftus-Cheek. Chelsea
winger Callum Hudson-Odoi has been called up to the England squad for
the first time. The 18-year-old was due to be part of the England
Under-21 squad. Hudson-Odoi played 19 games for Chelsea this season,
scoring five times, but is yet to start a Premier League match. Luke
Shaw is the latest player withdrawing from the squad. Hudson-Odoi's
Under-21 call-up was his first at that level but the winger has
previously represented England from Under-16 to Under-19 level,
winning the Under-17 World Cup in 2017. The players report to St.
George's Park and have their first training session.
Tuesday, 19 March 2019 - Second day
of training at St. George's Park. All 23 members of the squad are
involved, as well as Burnley FC's Dwight McNeil, who has come from the
under-20 squad for the session.
Wednesday, 20 March 2019 - On the the third day of training,
Trent Alexander-Arnold has withdrawn from the squad. The right-back
arrived at St. George's Park nursing a back injury, and despite
progress, it is considered unlikely that he will have a role in this
weekends matches. He will not be replaced.
Thursday, 21 March 2019 - 21 of the
players are taking part in training at St. George's Park today, the
only excluded player, Marcus Rashford, is working separately from the
main group. The head down to Wembley in the afternoon. In the evening, Marcus Rashford was sent back to his club. There was no
improvement to his ankle injury and it was decided he should continue
his rehabilitation at Manchester United. Gareth Southgate also
confirmed that Jordan Pickford would be starting in goal.
Friday, 22 March 2019 - Ahead of
tonights clash at Wembley, the England squad train at The Hive, the
