Started his
junior career with Bradford City AFC, leaving for the youth
academy at Leeds United AFC in September 2001, signing professionally on
11 January 2008. And soon his performances were getting him noticed by
Premier League managers, having bids turned down by Arsenal FC and Newcastle
United FC in the January 2009 transfer window. By the summer, Delph turned down Everton FC, Manchester City FC and
numerous other Premier League clubs, and tied up a deal to join Aston Villa
FC on 3 August 2009. He rejoined Leeds United AFC on loan on 20 January 2012. Since his return to Villa,
he became club captain. On 11 July 2015, it was reported that Delph had joined
Manchester City FC, but in an issued statement, Delph stated he was
remaining as captain of Villa. Yet, a week later, Delph signed a five year
contract with Manchester City FC on 17 July 2015 for £8 million, and
remained until 15 July 2019, when he was signed by Everton FC for £10 million.
He left Goodison Park at the end of his contract, 30 June 2022, after an
injury plagued time in Merseyside. On 27 September, Delph announced his
retirement, aged just 32 years. |
