Diary

Thursday, 16 May 2019 - Gareth Southgate, from Wembley Stadium, has named an initial 27-man squad for the inaugral Nations League Finals in Portugal next month. Joe Gomez, Jesse Lingard, Nathan Redmond and Harry Winks all return to the set-up.  Redmond returns to the squad for the first time since March 2017.
Tottenham striker Harry Kane is one of nine Champions League finalists named despite his fitness being "an unknown". Kane has not played since injuring his left ankle in the first leg of Spurs' Champions League quarter-final victory over Manchester City on 9 April. "He's working to be fit for the final. We are keeping that door open," said England manager Gareth Southgate. "That's one of the unknowns. We are going to look post-Champions League final. What happens with Tottenham will pretty much dictate where Harry sits in terms of his availability for us. It's certainly not a definite that he is fit for that game. But the final is absolutely a target for Harry. Therefore it was agreeable toerybody that he was involved in our squad, selected for our squad."
Chelsea midfielder Ruben Loftus-Cheek misses out on a place in the England squad and will also sit out the Europa League final against Arsenal on 29 May after injuring an ankle in a friendly in the US on Wednesday. "I went to bed last night and Ruben's in the squad and playing brilliantly," said Southgate. "It's a huge disappointment for him and he now misses a major European final and a brilliant opportunity for us." Loftus-Cheek's Chelsea team-mate Callum Hudson-Odoi is also absent following Achilles surgery last month
.

Tuesday, 21 May 2019 - Part of he squad arrive at St. George's Park, before getting their preparations in training underway.

Bank Holiday Monday, 27 May 2019 - As the Manchester City FC players arrive at St. George's Park to join in the preparations, Gareth Southgate announced his final squad that will be going to Portugal next month. Kieran Trippier, Harry Winks, Nathan Redmond and James Ward-Prowse are all dropped, and as Harry Kane has announced he is fully fit for the Champions League Final, he has also been included in the squad.
Liverpool's Trent Alexander-Arnold and Manchester City's Kyle Walker have been preferred to Trippier at right-back.

Tuesday, 28 May 2019 - At St. George's Park, there is a practise session between the England team and the under-20 side that are preparing for the Maurice Revello Tournament in France.

Sunday, 2 June 2019 - The vast majority of the squad return to St. George's Park to continue their preparations.  Chelsea's Ross Barkley has now also joined the squad, having returned from Baku following the UEFA Europa League Final.

Tuesday, 4 June 2019 - The last few members of the squad arrive at at St. George's Park. The few players that were involved in Champions League Final on Saturday evening from Liverpool and Tottenham Hotspur have taken their places.

Wednesday, 5 June 2019 - 22 of the 23-man squad spend the last morning at St. George's Park putting in one last training session before flying to Portugal this afternoon. Jordan Henderson is the player working indoors doing an individual training programme.
Raheem Sterling admitted he was "fuming" after his management company claimed he would captain England against the Netherlands. A press release circulated on Tuesday evening suggested the Manchester City forward would lead out his country on the occasion of his 50th cap. But Sterling said such information had not come from him. "I hadn't had a conversation with anyone in my agency. I woke up this morning fuming. The first thing I did after I came off the phone to my agent was see Gareth down the hallway, and I apologised to him for what had happened. I don't know where that's come from." Southgate remained tight-lipped over who would wear the armband when he addressed the media. "Harry Kane is our captain. If Harry doesn't play I have a decision to make. At this moment in time, I'm not prepared to do that. "If I confirmed anything about the team other than Raheem playing I would be doing half of Ronald's job for him. If I tell you Harry Kane's playing, I'm giving Ronald half the team as well."
