Diary
Thursday, 3 October 2019 -
Gareth Southgate names his 25-man squad for the European Championship
qualifiers against Czech Republic and Bulgaria. Midfielders Dele Alli
and Jesse Lingard have been left out, as has Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain
and uncapped Aaron Wan-Bissaka. There is a first call-up for defender
Fikayo Tomori, while his Chelsea team-mate, striker Tammy Abraham, has
also been picked. Manchester City right-back Kyle Walker has again
been omitted.
Monday, 7 October 2019
- As the squad arrives as St. George's Park, Everton
midfielder, Fabian Delph withdraws from the squad. He picked up a
hamstring injury in his side's defeat to Burnley on Saturday. The FA
have stated he will not be replaced and that Southgate will carry on
with a 24-man squad.

October 2019 - Dean Henderson, Sheffield United's goalkeeper,
has been called up to the squad after Aston Villa goalkeeper Tom
Heaton returned to his club. Heaton picked up an injury in his side's
demolition of Norwich City on Saturday. Henderson has 11 under-21
appearances. Chelsea defender Fikayo Tomori says he is "committed"
to England after considering which country to represent. Tomori, 21,
was born in Canada and played for their under-20s team, and is also
eligible to play for Nigeria. He said that receiving his first England
call-up for the Euro 2020 qualifiers away to the Czech Republic and
Bulgaria was "unexpected". "Depending on how you look at it, being
eligible for three countries is a good thing and a bad thing. I wasn't
expecting to be in the England squad at the beginning of the season,
and once I got the call-up there was no doubt I would commit. It's a
bit cliched but it is a dream. Growing up in England and seeing the
players playing at Wembley, it was such a good feeling. It's
indescribable. I tried to take it in as much as possible, but it was a
very proud moment." Tomori's situation is similar to Chelsea team-mate
Tammy Abraham, who also qualifies to play for Nigeria through his
family and was called into the England squad for the Euro 2020
qualifiers. Four members of the under 21 squad joined the main
squad for training today. They were Phil Foden, Ellery Balcombe,
Dwight McNeil and Reece James.
Wednesday, 9 October 2019 - Tammy Abraham says England are
prepared to walk off the pitch if they are targeted by racist abuse in
their qualifiers this week. England face Bulgaria on Monday in a
partially-closed stadium because of fans' racist behaviour in June.
"If it happens to one of us, it happens to all of us. Harry Kaneen
said that if we're not happy, if a player is not happy, we all come
off the pitch together." UEFA ordered the partial closure of
Bulgaria's national stadium following racist behaviour by their fans
in Euro 2020 qualifying games against the Czech Republic and Kosovo in
June. Gareth Southgate said last month that he would talk to the
players before next week's game, and Abraham says the players have
decided they will take matters into their own hands if necessary.
UEFA's three-step protocol for racial abuse ends with the officials
abandoning a match if announcements inside a stadium do not stop the
problem. "We did speak about that. Harry Kane did ask the question
about instead of going through the three steps, if we decide that we
want to stop the game - no matter what the score is - if we're not
happy with it, as a team we'll decide whether or not to stay on the
pitch. If it happens and let's say there's a warning or whatever in
the stadium, then it happens again, we have to make a decision as a
team and with the staff." Trent Alexander-Arnold agreed the team
should follow the protocols but added: "If it does get extreme we may
have to take a different action. It's a team decision, one that we all
need to make. It doesn't matter if one player is abused or the team -
we are one group. Nobody should be made to feel uncomfortable on the
pitch.eryone should be given the chance to play in a fair
environment. We are a team. If one person is abused then we all are,
we are one big family."
Thursday, 10 October 2019 - With one last training session
before the England squad fly off to Prague, James Maddison withdraws
from the squad because of illness. He will not be replaced, leaving
Southgate with a 23-man squad.
Friday, 11 October 2019 - Callum Wilson falls ill and is
quarantined from the rest of the squad.
