All information is complete
to and including England's last match, the fifth of the 2019-20 season, against
Montenegro on 14 November 2019
Diary
Thursday, 7 November 2019 -
Gareth Southgate names his final 27-man squad of the year, and his final
squad for the European Championship qualifiers. Southgate said he
named a "larger than normal" squad because there were a "couple of
injury doubts". The squad sees
the return of Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, John Stones and Callum
Hudson-Odoi, whereas Michael Keane is the only player that misses out.
For the match against Montenegro, the team will wear legacy numbers,
that has long been a feature on this site.
Sunday, 10 November 2019 - Ross
Barkley and Tom Heaton have been ruled out and will not attend St.
George's Park. However, Dean Henderson, Sheffield United's on-loan
goalkeeper, has received his second replacement call-up. Barkley has
not played for Chelsea since 19 October.
Monday, 11 November 2019 - The
Football Association have said that Raheem Sterling has been dropped
"as a result of a disturbance in a private team area". The Manchester
City player, 24, then took to social media to confirm "a five to 10
second thing" with Liverpool's Joe Gomez, 22, in the England camp.
Boss Gareth Southgate said on Monday: "Unfortunately the emotions of
yesterday's game were still raw. One of the great challenges and
strengths for us is that we've been able to separate club rivalries
from the national team. We have taken the decision to not consider
Raheem for the match against Montenegro on Thursday. My feeling is
that the right thing for the team is the action we have taken. Now
that the decision has been made with the agreement of the entire
squad, it's important that we support the players and focus on
Thursday night."
Tuesday, 12
November 2019 - First day of training at St. George's Park.
Declan Rice and Fabian Delph are missing from the morning session.
Jordan Henderson is also missing, he will link up with the squad
tonight, as he is suspended for Thursdays match. By the evening
Fabian Delph had withdrawn from the squad and returned to his club, Everton.
Thursday, 14 November 2019
- England celebrated their 1,000th game in style as they
secured qualification for Euro 2020 and topped Group A with an
emphatic demolition of Montenegro at Wembley. Captain Harry Kane moved
to fifth in England's all-time record goalscorers as a first-half
hat-trick took his tally to 31, while Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain opened
the scoring on his first start for 18 months and Marcus Rashford was
also on the scoresheet in that 45-minute barrage. As England and the
Football Association enjoyed this landmark occasion, with a parade of
legends and 1966 World Cup winners in attendance, Montenegro proved
the most amenable of opponents, particularly in the opening half when
Kane and company ran riot and the visitors' defending was shambolic.
Oxlade-Chamberlain finished superbly to begin the rout while Kane
quickly added two headers, with all three goals created by Leicester
City defender Ben Chilwell. England's captain and Rashford were also
the beneficiaries of Montenegro generosity before the interval. It was
also in evidence in the second half when Aleksandar Šofranac diverted
Mason Mount's shot into his own net for England's sixth. To complete a
perfect night for Southgate and England, he was able to give a debut
to Leicester City's James Maddison, while substitute Tammy Abraham
scored his first full international goal.
Friday, 15 November 2019 - The
players that did not feature in last night's match are back in
training at Watford FC.
Saturday, 16
November 2019 - Jordan Henderson and Joe Gomez will miss
England's final qualification match in Kosovo tomorrow. Henderson
arrived in camp with a viral infection that has not fully cleared.
Meanwhile, his clubmate Joe Gomez sustained a knock to his knee in
training yesterday, and has not recovered sufficiently enough to
travel. The pair return to their club as the remaining 23-man squad
travel to Pristina after a final session at Watford FC's training
ground.
