Beyond England

Became a successful club manager with Leeds United AFC, before taking up the tenure with the England national side. For various reasons, some true, some probably not, Revie left England to take up a similar position with the United Arab Emirates, then various club sides in the area.  He returned to retire in Scotland in 1988, where he was diagnosed with MND, only to die a year later. No Football Association official attended his funeral and nor were their any marks of respect in the following weekend's football programme.

England Disgrace

Don Revie was guilty of selling his England Team Manager resignation to the Daily Mail, before he told the Football Association his intention to resign. The newspaper article revealed that Revie had in fact been negotiating his United Arab Emirates contract whilst he was supposed to be on England scouting missions. It was enough to upset the Football Association, who had attempted to ban Revie from football for ten years, only overturned on appeal. But why was Revie so desperate to leave these shores? Apparently his rush to leave England was the upcoming revelation that Revie had a history of match-fixing and bribery. Allegations witnessed and testified by footballers such as Gary Sprake, and respected managers such as Bob Stokoe.
