Diary

Thursday, 14 March 2013 - Roy Hodgson has selected a 26-man squad for the World Cup qualifiers against San Marino and Montenegro next week. Hodgson has called up Manchester United defender Rio Ferdinand for the first time during his spell as Manager. With 81 appearances to his name, Ferdinand hasn't featured for England since the game with Switzerland in June 2011. And goalkeeper Ben Foster is back in the squad after his recent announcement that he is available for international selection again. There are also call-ups for Tottenham Hotspur duo Scott Parker and Michael Dawson.  Parker hasn't been in an England squad since last summer's Euro Finals after injury problems kept him out of action in the first half of the season. And it's a first call-up under Hodgson for defender Dawson, who last featured in the game against Wales in March 2011.

Sunday, 17 March 2013 - Tottenham Hotspur manager Andre Villas-Boas has said injured winger Aaron Lennon will not be joining up with the England squad. Lennon was left out of the Spurs squad for today's loss to Fulham because of a groin and hamstring injury. "He is on the brink of rupturing his muscle so we have decided to take him out of this game...Lennon won't be able to make it, he has been struggling a lot with injuries".  Centre-back Michael Dawson will also miss out after being substituted in today's match. "He felt his (hamstring) muscle going in the first half. If we had brought him on in the second half we would be risking him a major injury. I think Michael will be assessed by the England team doctors, they will be in communication with our medical department to find out if he will make it or not. He probably won't, but it's something that they have to decide between them."

Manchester City's Joleon Lescott has been told to report to St. George's Park tomorrow as their replacement.

Monday, 18 March 2013 - Rio Ferdinand has withdrawn from the squad. The decision was taken following a meeting on Sunday with Ferdinand and Roy Hodgson.  At the meeting, Ferdinand confirmed he wants to continue playing for England. "I'm disappointed Rio will not be available, but due to the detailed medical programme he must follow it's not possible," said Hodgson. Tottenham's Steven Caulker, who was originally named in Stuart Pearce's Under-21 squad, will now join the seniors.

Tuesday, 19 March 2013 - England have called up Newcastle centre-back Steven Taylor after Gary Cahill was ruled out of Friday's World Cup qualifier against San Marino. Cahill has a knee injury but could be fit to face Montenegro and will be reassessed before that game. The uncapped Taylor, 27, was last involved in the England senior set-up when he was an unused substitute in a friendly defeat by Germany in August 2007. It's a dream come true, I am so happy to have received a call-up to the full squad. It isery player's ambition to represent their country and it is the greatest honour in professional football.  If I am lucky enough to be given that chance over the next seven days it will be one of the proudest moments of my playing career."

Friday, 22 March 2013 - On the afternoon of the match against San Marino, Theo Walcott flies home back to England due to a groin jnjury. He is sidelined for seven to ten days.

England go on to thrash San Marino 8-0 with no yellow cards and no injuries to take into their next match. Montenegro also won, meaning England are still second in the table.
