Belgium on 14 July 2018.
Diary
Wednesday, 24 January 2018 -
Following the draw in Lausanne, England will face Spain and Croatia in
League A of the inaugural UEFA Nations League.
The first group games take place in September this year, with the
finals scheduled for June 2019.
Tuesday, 28
August 2018 - Jamie Vardy and Gary Cahill are stepping aside
from international football to allow manager Gareth Southgate to bring
younger players in. But both players say they are "not shutting the
door completely". Leicester City striker Vardy says he first
told Southgate of his intentions at the World Cup in Russia. "This has
been on my mind for a while. I'm not getting any younger and you can
see, to be fair to the gaffer, he wants to make it more youthful,
which obviously had its benefits during the World Cup." He has told
Southgate he also wishes to concentrate on his club football and his
family. "Gareth said that he felt I still had a lot to offer, and
we've not shut the door completely. If the worst came to happen anderyone was injured, then obviously I wouldn't say no." Chelsea
defender Cahill said: "I can see it is now going to a younger
generation and I think it is the perfect time for me to take a step
back," Cahill told Chelsea TV. I've been hugely honoured to play for
my country and I would never shut the door. I've said that if there
are injuries in the future and I'm needed to come and play then, of
course, I'm available."
Thursday, 30
August 2018, 2.00pm - At St. George's Park, Gareth Southgate
names his first England squad since the World Cup Finals. Southgate
has retained the bulk of the Finals squad, with 18 of the 23 keeping
their places. Joe Gomez, Adam Lallana and James Tarkowski all return,
as does goalkeeper Alex McCarthy. Their is also a recall for Luke
Shaw. The five that miss out are the aforementioned Cahill and Vardy,
Phil Jones and Nick Pope miss out through injury and Ashley Young, who
has been left out to allow the younger members to participate.
Southgate: "With us only being three games into the season, I felt
some continuity was important. Those who were with us in the summer
deserve the right to go again."
Monday, 3 September 2018 - 22 of the
23 man squad arrive at St. George's Park. The only member who has not
is Manchester City's Raheem Sterling, who has withdrawn because of a
back problem. Southgate has no plans to call up a replacement.
Tuesday, 4 September 2018 - Dominic
Solanke has joined in the first day of training, whereas Adam Lallana
has returned to Liverpool to have a groin strain assessed by staff.
Also missing from training was goalkeeper Jordan Pickford. Southgate
has called up the uncapped Fulham goalkeeper Marcus Bettinelli as
cover. His call up comes just nine days after making his Premier
League debut, after starting the season behind first choice keeper,
Fabri.
Thursday, 6 September 2018 -
A day after training was held behind closed doors, today's
training included two members of the under-20 squad. Eddie Nketiah and
Marcus Tavernier.
