Birth 15 May 1933 in Adelaide Road, Elvington, Kent [registered in Eastry, June 1933]. Second son to John and Elizabeth.
Attended Elvington Village and Deal County Modern schools.
Marriage to Shirley A. Nicholl [registered in Wolverhampton, Staffordshire, March 1956]. Two children, Deborah and Gary
Death 1 October 2013 in Wolverhampton, aged 80 years 139 days.
Funeral 9 October 2013 at St. Peter's Collegiate Church, Wolverhampton, buried in Busbury Cemetery.

Club Career

Club(s) Played his early career representing Deal and Sandwich Boys Schools, with Kent County Schools and also for the Dover FC. He, alongside his Dover manager, George Poyser, both joined Brentford AFC, towards the end of the 1949-50 season. Poyser joined as chief scout, while Broadbent joined  as an amateur, turning professional in May 1950. He made sixteen appearances, scoring twice, before Wolverhampton Wanderers FC signed him in February 1951 for £9000, a substantial fee for a seventeen year-old. He left after nearly fourteen years service, in which he scored 125 goals in 452 league appearances. Broadbent joined Shrewsbury Town FC in January 1965 for £8000, making 69 league appearances, scoring seven times. Aston Villa FC signed Broadbent in October 1966 for £7500 for another 64 league appearances and two goals. Joined Stockport County FC in October 1969, making a final 31 league outings and one last goal. Bromsgrove Rovers FC in November 1970, where he scored seventeen goals in eighteen West Midlands (regional) League appearances. He retired from playing in November 1971.
